Sea Glass, Beach Glass, Sea Gems or Mermaids Tears are the more common names given to pieces of glass gathered at the edges of oceans and lakes all over the world having been smoothed by the endless time of wind, waves, and sand.If you’ve walked a beach with your eyes cast down and seen these colourful treasures capturing the early morning light as the tide receded you may well understand the magic that captivates so many people around the world.

The Sea Glass used in Ocean Aura’s designs is exclusively gathered on Vancouver Island and surrounding smaller islands on the coast of British Columbia in the Pacific Northwest, by the artist, her daughter and friends, then carefully drilled to create these original and unique pieces. It is the history of this area that the glass found here reflects.

On the West Coast of Vancouver island thick aqua and green shades of glass can be found, hinting at their likely origin as a fishing float.

Many Sea Glass enthusiasts claim that the unique frosted glow characterizing naturally tumbled ocean glass cannot be duplicated in a machine. I have never attempted to polish or tumble any glass and never will because I believe the spirit and energy of the ocean can only be found in the naturally tumbled pieces.

It ties us to our history and our relationship with the environment. Many people who wear sea glass jewelry comment that it reminds them of times spent on or near the ocean and feels very calming yet powerful.
